How To Finish Cement Floor
Many floor finishes including staining dyeing polishing and decorative coatings can be applied to existing concrete as well as new concrete.
How to finish cement floor. If you pour a specific type of stain on the concrete it will react with the surface and create a color on the floor. Many modern concrete mixes do not need to be compressed or tamped before. With this method you can create almost any color that you want.
Run the troweling machines over the concrete until the level of finish you desire is achieved. For a hard troweled finish you will raise the blades up on the machine as the concrete gets progressively harder which in turn puts more pressure on a smaller area of the blade. At first hold the trowel almost flat elevating the leading edge just enough to avoid gouging the surface.
For example you can stencil your concrete basement floor or use dyed concrete seal. Special stains with chemicals that react to the lime in concrete can be painted or applied to the floor to make intricate designs. This gives you the ability to expose concrete floor slabs hidden by other floor coverings such as carpet or vinyl tile or add a finish to a concrete basement floor.
Engineered wood is an excellent basement floor finish because it is more resistant. If you are unfamiliar with pouring concrete follow the linked instructions to ensure you do so. I don t think the concrete floor is slippery at all even with wet feet.
Compress the concrete only if necessary. Place a 2x4 across the concrete. The sealer i used has a matte finish because i was worried about slipping too.
Scoring uses circular saws with special blades to cut shallow grooves and shapes into the floors. On each successive pass lift the leading edge of the trowel a little more. For a really smooth finish repeat the troweling step two or three times letting the concrete harden a bit between each pass.
