Installing Floor Trim
Cover the floor with a tarp to prevent scuff marks and scratches.
Installing floor trim. Begin the first row of flooring by placing the planks with the tongue side facing the wall. Once you ve purchased baseboard moldings let the materials sit inside your home for a week before finishing and installing the trim. Once you get your trim home sand and stain or paint the trim before you install it.
Measure number and mark measure and cut the baseboards for each wall. Allow your moldings and trim to acclimate for 72 hours like your floorboards. Find and mark the studs in the wall.
This will give the material time to adjust to temperatures and conditions inside the house. Boards that meet outside corners should be a few inches longer than the. Use blocks the same height as the miter saw table to support long lengths of trim.
Lengths of scrap baseboard and put 45 degree angles on the ends. When you come to the end of the first row cut the length of plank needed to complete the row. Cut away the old paint and caulk along the top edge of the trim.
Miter the corners as with the base molding. Prefinishing interior trim molding saves a ton of time. Install baseboards by attaching them to the wall every 16 inches.
Remove any nails that remain in the drywall. Then apply construction adhesive at the top and bottom. Nail the floor trim to the studs and then tack the braces to the trim with 1 in brads.
